The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering a $500 reward for information leading to whoever poached a pronghorn antelope doe in Show Low this month.
The doe carcass was found May 10 in the Sierra Pines residential area with only the backstraps, the most tender part of the meat, having been removed, according to a Game and Fish statement.
Officials say the doe showed signs of lactation, meaning that a young fawn was likely “orphaned.”
“The poacher left this animal to waste,” said Shawn Wagner, Game and Fish wildlife manager. “This isn’t the action of a hunter; it’s an act of criminal stealing wildlife resources from the people of Arizona.”
Wildlife officials urge anyone with information to contact the Game and Fish hotline at 1-800-352-0700 or visit www.azgfd.gov/thief and refer to case number 15-001192.
